Boomtown Festival's massive new Bristol event space with a capacity of 3,500 has been approved

A massive new event space with a capacity of 3,500, headed up by the organisers of one of the UK's best music festivals has been given the green light.

The team behind Boomtown Festival submitted plans to hold events at their industrial HQ on Albert Road in St Phillips earlier this month.

A planning notice appeared near the building stating their intentions to hold a maximum of 24 event days per calendar year, with the licence initially running from October 1, 2019 until September 30, 2022.

The application requested the provision of plays, film, live music, recorded music, dance, late night refreshments and supply of alcohol at the premises.

Speaking at the time, the festival's Co-Founder and Director Chris Rutherford said: "The licence we've submitted is with the idea of running a series of themed Boomtown theatrical events in our warehouse, as well as offering Bristol a new venue space for general hire for fellow promoters.

"It could also be used as an interesting space for company Christmas parties and things like that."

The application was approved by Bristol City Council this week - just days before the festival's plans to expand by 11,000 people in 2020 also crossed the line - making it a momentous week for those who work tirelessly on the Hampshire-based event.

A spokesperson said: "We're really happy to have had an increased licence granted for 2020 event; a very much needed growth that we have been working toward for the last few years.

"The level of creativity, the desire to produce a sustainable and safe event comes at great financial cost. Sterling work from all the Boomtown team.

"To top it off the licence just been granted this week for our new venue at Boomtown HQ in Bristol.

"Watch out for some new shows coming your way this autumn."

Given the creativity and experience of the team behind the extravaganza, it's safe to say we're in for a real treat when the venue throws its doors open later this year.
