Boomtown festival 2019: Sofa beds and tents among piles of rubbish left behind

Shocking pictures have revealed the scale of the rubbish left behind by campers after this year's Boomtown Fair.

The Bristol-organised event is one of the UK’s largest festivals and returned for its eleventh year during the weekend.

Hosting around 60,000 people, Chapter 10 of Boomtown showcased a wide array of artists including Ms. Lauryn Hill, The Streets and UB40.

However, photos shared in the Festivals & Events UK Facebook Page have shown many attendees took no notice of the 'Leave No Trace' message.

The pictures show dozens of tents left behind, as well as sofa beds and piles of rubbish across the campsite.

The Facebook post reads: "This is what was left behind at Boomtown Fair 2019.

"Photos were taken today at 5pm after everyone left the site in Hampshire.

"#LeaveNoTrace #TakeYourTentHome. Did people not get the message this year.

"Come on folks. Time for some radical changes....!!"

But organisers have said waste is way down on previous years. In an Instagram post, they said: "Campsite waste is down a whopping 70 per cent on last year which is so amazing and shows a huge shift in environmental awareness.

"It’s the biggest change in one year our sustainability team have ever seen at a festival."

In other Boomtown news, headliner Ms Lauryn Hill reportedly and then played for only 15 minutes before running out of time.

A video also captured the moment a piece of a stage which fell into the crowd.
