Boomtown cancelled: Festival rescheduled to 2021 due to Covid-19 outbreak

Boomtown has become the latest major UK festival to cancel its 2020 edition due to coronavirus.

The Winchester event was set to take place from August 12-16 this summer, but has been forced to postpone its plans.

Kano, Wu-Tang Clan and the Libertines had all been locked in to perform at the festival.

New dates for 2021 have been set for August 11-15.

In a statement, Boomtown organisers said: “Over the past few months we have been keeping a close eye on expert advice from across the globe, as well as taking into consideration the timelines involved for safely planning and delivering the event.

“In addition, we’ve recently held close consultation with local agencies, and emergency services, to further understand the knock on effect of the current pressures on these vital services.

“This has led us to the decision that Boomtown 2020 will no longer go ahead.”

All tickets bought for the 2020 edition will remain valid in 2021. Anyone wishing to obtain a refund must apply for one by August 16 this year. Refunds will be processed and issued from September 2020.

For more information on tickets, visit the Boomtown website.

Boomtown follows in the footsteps of Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Download as just one of the many UK festivals forced into abandonment in the face of the Covid-19 outbreak.
