Booming East Lothian fish and chip shop awarded with prestigious accreditation

A popular East Lothian fish & chip shop has been recognised as one of the best establishments in the country.

Bene's, a takeaway in Port Seton, has blown customers away with their reliable service and great tasting food, and they've now been recognised on a wider scale by achieving the prestigious National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) Quality Accrediation.

The scheme, sponsored by Sarsons Vinegar, sets the benchmark for quality within the industry and rewards restaurants on the basis of the quality of their products and hygiene standards as well as COVID compliance.

For a shop to be awarded the accreditation, it must go through a rigorous virtual inspection by an NFFF approved assessor, who assesses the shop’s presentation, hygiene and cleanliness in addition to staff training, equipment, frying and sales skills and the quality of the cooked product.

Carlo Crolla, Bene’s Fish and Chips said: “We are delighted to gain our place in the scheme. To be recognised as one of the top fish and chip shops by the NFFF is indeed an honour and a credit to our hardworking staff, who I would like to offer my sincere thanks for the continued hard work and efforts to maintain our excellent reputation.

“I would personally like to thank all our customers, new and old. All businesses have found the coronavirus pandemic extremely difficult and the support and encouragement they have offered has been great. It has motivated us to maintain our high standards which have been recognised with this accreditation.”

Bene's also have an impressive website where customers can view their range, including specials, as well as order for their food to be delivered straight to their door. The chippy also have fellow stores in both Dalkeith and Prestonpans, creating a well-known and friendly service throughout the Lothians.

NFFF President Andrew Crook said: "Bene's Fish and Chips clearly takes pride in where it sources its fish and potatoes from.

"Achieving the NFFF Quality Accreditation provides reassurance to customers that they are being served cooked food using high-quality ingredients.”
