The Boomers will field a team of mostly teenagers in next Saturday's hastily-arranged Asia Cup qualifier against New Zealand.
No NBL or foreign-based players available were available for selection as there was just 10 days' notice for the rescheduled fixture.
It's left Basketball Australia to draw on their centre of excellence stable, naming a side on Thursday that incredibly includes just one player born before 2000.
Matt Kenyon turned 23 this week and is the father figure of a 12-man squad that includes 16-year-old Alex Toohey.
NBA Global Academy prospect Toohey is poised to become the country's youngest Boomer if he sees court time in the Cairns clash, eclipsing NBA All-Star Ben Simmons and current Adelaide 36ers guard Josh Giddey, who were both 17.
Giddey debuted early last year in the Boomers' last Asia Cup qualifying window where the defending Asia Cup champions were beaten by the Tall Blacks in Brisbane.
However both sides are likely to proceed to the Asia Cup finals in August as the top two sides in their conference regardless of the result.
With quarantine periods ruling out international travel, the Tall Blacks have been forced to select a side of Australian-based, non-NBL players.
Centre of excellence coach Adam Caporn will take charge of the side, with former Cairns Taipans guard Kerry Williams and experienced Gordie McLeod his assistants.
"What a fantastic opportunity and privilege for this group of highly talented young men to step forward and represent Australia in such an important game," Caporn said.
"It is the greatest honour in sport to represent your country and knowing the talent and character of this group, they are ready to make an important contribution and do Australia proud.
"We can't wait to get to Cairns and help Australia defend our FIBA Asia Cup title."
