Boom! Ryan Day flips four-star offensive tackle from Penn State

He was … Penn State! After committing to the Nittany Lions back in November, four-start offensive lineman Grant Toutant seemed to be content with his choice.

Then an unexpected offer came in January from Ohio State and head coach Ryan Day that made Toutant sort of think for a little bit.

His thinking ultimately led him to de-committing from the Nittany Lions and flipping to Ohio State on Sunday via Twitter.

“This was a very difficult decision because I wanted to stay loyal to my commitment, but knew in my gut that I had to at least explore the opportunity,” Toutant said to the Letterman Row who broke the story of Toutant’s commitment. “Penn State has done an amazing job not only recruiting me, but also involving my entire family in the process and making us all feel like a part of their family.

“I have always been taught that everything happens for a reason. And when the offer to play for Ohio State presented itself, after my Penn State commitment, I knew that it was an opportunity I could not overlook. It has always been a dream offer of mine that at the time I didn’t think I would ever receive.”

Toutant, who stands a towering 6-feet-7 and weighs 320 pounds out of De La Salle Collegiate in Warren, Michigan, is ranked as the ninth-best in Michigan and the No. 27 offensive lineman in the class of 2020 according to 247Sports

He is Ohio State’s 11th commitment in the 2020 class and the fifth offensive lineman committed to the Buckeyes, joining fellow lineman Paris Johnson (6-feet-7, 295), Luke Wypler (6-feet-3, 285), Jakob James (6-feet-5, 275) and Trey Leroux (6-feet-8, 355).

Head coach Ryan Day strikes again, and at the expense of James Franklin and Penn State University. Doesn’t get much better than that.
