Boom gates on Adelaide's Outer Harbor rail line were stuck closed for several hours early this morning after copper cables were stolen.
Police were called to the Port Adelaide area shortly after 3:30am, after reports of faults occurring on the train line and several boom gates being closed.
Department for Infrastructure and Transport rail incident response unit workers searched the area and discovered copper had been damaged and stolen near Buller Terrace in Cheltenham.
The department said boom gates were stuck down for more than four hours until the wiring was replaced just before 8am.
It said services were not stopped, but trains did operate more slowly through the area.
Police said investigations into the theft were ongoing.
They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Copper prices have surged over the past year.
Multiple train services have been cancelled over the past week in Adelaide due to staff shortages caused by COVID-19.
