A new Facebook page and Flickr group has been created for Bute Park.
Run by the Bute Park Team, part of Cardiff council, the new Facebook fan page posts updates on park news as well as events and developments in the new £5.6m restoration project.
The project aims to restore some of the important historic features within the park, provide new facilities for visitors and tell the story of the park and the people who helped to create it.
The work is funded by Cardiff council with a grant of £3.1m from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The animal wall on the front end of the park next to Cardiff Castle was recently given a facelift as part of the project.
The Bute Park Facebook page has more than 100 fans so far, and can be found at http://www.facebook.com/Bute.Park.Cardiff.
One of Cardiff's most iconic and favoured parks, Bute Park is filled with internationally-recognised historic, horticultural and environmental features.
The 56 hectare green lung in the heart of the city is flanked by the River Taff, Sophia Gardens, Pontcanna Fields and Cardiff Castle and is celebrated by local environmental groups.
Bute Parks Alliance formed to protect the park from the access bridge being built through its centre and still exists to campaign on issues affecting the main park and adjoining Llandaff Fields, Pontcanna Fields and Sophia Gardens.
Photos in the Flickr group contain mainly snow-covered pictures of the park which capture recent scenes of the wintery weather in all its glory.
Executive member for sport, leisure and culture, councillor Nigel Howells said:
"Facebook is a modern and successful way for people to communicate. The Bute Park fan page brings interesting up-to-date information to park users in a way not previously possible. I'm delighted to see the way the page has been embraced by the existing users and the fantastic photos and wildlife insights featured.
"The tool aims to reach more people of all different ages so they can learn and stay in the loop with what is going on in one Cardiff's most historical and beautiful parks."
