Boris Johnson has been facing calls to step down as the 'partygate' controversy has intensified after he admitted attending a 'bring your own booze' event at Downing Street during the first Covid lockdown.
The PM admitted he had been there for around 25 minutes on May 20, 2020 to "thank groups of staff" for their work during the first few weeks of the pandemic.
Speaking in the Commons, he said he "believed implicitly that this was a work event".
Some of his allies have defended him, among them Commons leader Jacob Rees-Mogg, who said Johnson had "made his apology clear".
However, some Tories are now urging him to resign - including Douglas Ross, the Scottish Conservative leader.
And if he did go, bookmakers think there are two candidates who will be leading the race to replace him, TeessideLive reports.
The favourite is Rishi Sunak, the current Chancellor who Sky Bet has down as 2/1 favourite to be the next incumbent of No 10.
Liz Truss, the Foreign Secretary, is behind Sunak with odds of 3/1 via Sky Bet.
The odds then lengthen for the politicians considered the next most likely to throw their hat in the ring.
Former Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, who lost to Boris Johnson in the last leadership challenge, is 8/1 while Michael Gove is 9/1.
Priti Patel has odds of 16/1 and Sajid Javid is 22/1 - suggesting they are not being seen as probable successors to Johnson.
Sky Bet are offering 66/1 odds on ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage getting the job - or 200/1 on David Cameron making an unexpected return to No 10.
