After the news that British residents arriving in England from Covid hotspots will have to quarantine in hotels, staycation booking spikes have started early, with record numbers of holidaymakers considering opting for local destinations this summer.
With Brits starved of sun over the winter months, Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, looks set to be high on desirable destination lists, following the news that the island soaked up more sun than anywhere in the UK in 2020.
According to data from UK Met Office, Shoeburyness in Essex was the sunniest place in the UK, with over 2207.67 hours of sunlight across the year. However, Jersey clocked up a scorching 2,392 hours of sunlight throughout the year according to the Jersey Met Office – 185 hours more than the UK winner.
As campsites and beaches along the coastline of mainland UK book up and with international travel rules in flux, Jersey is the ideal staycation destination with over 30 different beaches ranging from pebbled coves to sandy shores. With nearly 12 square miles of sandy beaches, visitors will be able to take advantage of sun, sea and sand, as well as plenty of space to socially distance if required.
