Bookies stats suggest Pontus Jansson could have netted Leeds United more than £20m

Pontus Jansson's exit from Leeds United for a cut-price fee has raised some eyebrows, with fans split over whether the Whites should have got more for their man.

The Sweden international has joined Championship rivals Brentford for a reported fee of just £5.5m, estimated to be significantly under his valuation - though technically a £2m rise on the cost of bringing him permanently from Torino over two years ago.

A terrace favourite during his time at Elland Road , the centre-back established himself as a powerful option at the rear for United , though suggestions that his relationship with Marcelo Bielsa broke down has led to his departure.

But Jansson isn't the only major defender to seal a move this week, with Aston Villa confirming a deal for Tyrone Mings at almost five times the cost.

The 26-year-old, who spent last season on loan with the Villains as they beat out United to play-off success and promotion to the Premier League, has been purchased from Bournemouth permanently for a reported £26.5m

While the Bath-born man is two years younger than Jansson however, it's the only advantage that he holds over the Swede with the 'Magic Hat'.

As Sky Bet pointed out on Twitter , the former Leeds man has his rival beat in almost every department, having scored more goals and made more interceptions and tackles per game on average than Mings.

The younger defender has more clearances on average, at 4.3 per match - but even that is only a fraction above Jansson's 4.2

Yet, it is Mings who has commended a sizeable eight-figure fee, leaving the question of whether Leeds have been too eager to accept chump change for a top talent.
