Bookies reveal the most popular horses ahead of the Grand National

The Grand National will spark a record-breaking €250 million betting spree across the UK and Ireland on Saturday.

The Aintree showpiece is the biggest single betting event of the year and bookies are running scared of red-hot favourite Tiger Roll.

Gordon Elliott's horse is only 7/2 to repeat his victory in the race last year after a huge amount of money has already been gambled on the popular horse.

And 2010 Grand National-winning jockey Tony McCoy is in doubt he would be on Tiger Roll if given the choice.

McCoy said: "He definitely warrants his odds. He's a better horse than he was last year! He was so impressive winning at Cheltenham.

"Tiger Roll deserves to be the price he is. If I could ride anything, he's the one I would like to be on.

"I genuinely believe he's an improved horse this year and if you ask the handicapper he would say the same."

Other horses that are starting to become popular include Joe Farrell (25/1), Jury Duty (25/1), One For Arthur (33/1), and Vintage Clouds (14/1).

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: "All betting record books are expected to be torn up on Grand National day as turnover levels could reach a staggering £250 million across the industry.

"Every punter has a different method as to how they pick their horse. Tiger Roll needs no introduction as he bids to do the double, while those who relate to the names Joe and Arthur, are making sure to have a flutter on Joe Farrell and One For Arthur.”
