Bookies release odds for Mick McCarthy's next job after Republic of Ireland departure

Bookmakers reckon Mick McCarthy is most likely to stay in international football or take a job at one of his former clubs after his Ireland departure.

Stephen Kenny has taken over from McCarthy after the FAI brought the managerial succession plan forward, following the postponement of the Euro 2020 playoffs postponed until further notice and tournament pushed back to 2021.

Paddy Power has made McCarthy 6/1 to take over another international side.

The former defender is 15/2 to land the Celtic or Barnsley jobs as his next gig.

Sunderland are priced at 10/1 as a potential next destination for McCarthy, with former clubs Millwall and Ipswich priced at 12/1.

“Mick and his moustache made their debut at Barnsley back in the late 70s and after 314 appearances and 10 goals, he was snapped up by Manchester City at the end of 1983.

“So, failing a role with an international side, he looks most likely to return to his roots.

"But more importantly it’s 8/1 that his tache will make a comeback if he does,” a spokesperson for Paddy Power said.
