Bookies predict Newcastle United will achieve Premier League survival after Fulham setback

The bookmakers have now reinstalled Fulham, as opposed to Newcastle United, as favourites for relegation.

The Cottagers missed a golden opportunity to dump Newcastle into the bottom three as they were beaten 2-1 by Leeds at Craven Cottage.

Victory would have lifted them one point clear of Steve Bruce's side but the Magpies now have two games in hand over Scott Parker's men and can move five points clear of them with a win over Brighton on Saturday.

It will also plunge Brighton, who are three points clear of Fulham, back into serious relegation trouble.

The Seagulls are 12/1 outsiders to suffer relegation, while Newcastle are priced at 5/4 with most bookmakers.

But Fulham (10/11), who now only have eight games - only three of which are at home - to remedy their situation, are now odds-on favourites to fall back into the Championship.

Unsurprisingly, the bookies are certain both Sheffield United (1/200) and West Brom (1/100) will join Fulham in dropping down to the second tier.

Burnley are priced at 16/1 and Southampton can be backed at 33/1 if punters believe either of those sides can still be dragged into the relegation mire as we head into the final stretch of the season.
