Bookies open betting on next Rangers manager after horror week for Michael Beale

Kevin Muscat has been priced up as the favourite to replace under pressure Rangers boss Michael Beale after a poor start to the campaign.

In what was one of Beale’s biggest weeks as Gers manager so far, they were defeated by Old Firm rivals Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday, just days after being humiliated and put out of the UEFA Champions League by PSV.

Rangers were booed off the pitch at full-time on Sunday after another costly defeat, and questions are now being asked.

Some bookies have now opened betting on the next Rangers manager and the latest odds to replace Beale have been compiled by Sportslens and several eye-catching names are amongst the potential candidates.

Former Rangers defender Muscat is leading the betting to replace Beale at Ibrox.

He has been placed up as 7/2 favourite after impressing in Japan with Yokohama F. Marinos. He previously managed Central Coast Mariners in the A League – where current manager Nick Montgomery looks set to fill the Easter Road Hibs vacancy.

Norwegian Kjetil Knutsen has made a name for himself with his mouth-watering attacking football at Bodo/Glimt.

His candidacy to replace Ange Postecoglou at Celtic in the summer gained a strong backing – before the 54-year-old was a target for Ajax before discussions broke down.

He is priced up at 9/1 to become the next Rangers manager. Could his free-flowing football bring much-needed success to Ibrox?

Former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter is another who could potentially take over at Ibrox.

The 50-year-old has been without a job since departing Stamford Bridge in April earlier this year – but was it a case of the wrong job too soon?

Potter will be better known for breaking a number of records when he was in charge of Premier League side Brighton – and his philosophy could work well in Govan, with his aim being to unearth gems and sell them on for substantial profit.

He is currently a 14/1 shot for the role – and is undoubtedly one of the best available candidates without a job.

Could Frank Lampard be the next Steven Gerrard? The former England captain has been branded “unlucky” so far in his managerial career with Chelsea and Everton – and perhaps a move to Ibrox could be the perfect move.

Lampard’s been handed two tough jobs with Chelsea on both stints and Everton and his next move is undoubtedly an important one for him.

The 45-year-old is a massive 40/1 to take over from Beale – a price that could be significantly cut in coming weeks if Rangers' poor start to the campaign continues on a downwards slope.

James Thompson told Sportslens: “It’s been a disastrous start to the campaign for Rangers and Michael Beale and I think the fans’ frustration was there for everyone to see after the defeat to Celtic at the weekend.

“Rangers fans expect to win every game and they’ve suffered some real blows so far this season. It’s going to be a very interesting couple of weeks in the Scottish Premiership and you can’t imagine that Beale can afford yet another slip-up, or he could be heading for the exit door sooner rather than later.”
