Booker Prize-winner Ian McEwan’s new novel out in September

Booker Prize-winning author Ian McEwan is all set to get his new novel published in September 2022. Titled 'Lessons', the novel follows protagonist Roland Baines' journey from post-World War two to the present time of the pandemic and climate crisis. It explores the impact childhood traumas and certain situations have on us.

The book will be published by Jonathan Cape. The publisher describes 'Lessons' as "a powerful meditation on history and humanity through the prism of one man's lifetime".

At the young age of 11, protagonist Roland Baines spends time at an “unusual” boarding school, where his piano teacher Miss Miriam Cornell is attracted to his vulnerabilities. This leaves him with memories of love and scars of childhood trauma. Years later, his wife leaves him and their young son and Roland is left to take care of their child alone. As he struggles to take care of his young son, he learns the highs and lows of parenthood in turn discovering himself. All this time, Roland tries to find solace through-- "music, literature, family, friends, sex, politics and love,” reads the book's blurb.

Praising McEwan's upcoming novel, Michal Shavit- Publishing director, called it “not only [McEwan’s] most epic book to date”, but also “one of, if not, his finest”, reports The Guardian.

Some of McEwan's other works include: 'Machines Like Me' (2019), 'Amsterdam' (1998), 'First Love, Last Rites' (1975), among others.

'Lessons' by Ian McEwan is expected to be published on September 13, 2022.
