DALLAS_The Dallas Mavericks were about to close out a perfect home stand.
Then they did the equivalent of yipping a 2-foot putt on the 18th hole.
The Mavericks got burned by Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns for a 100-98 loss Saturday night at American Airlines Center.
Their season-long home stand ended at 4-1 and dealt a serious blow to their playoff hopes. Coach Rick Carlisle has said several times during the home stand that the Mavericks have no margin for error.
Losing to the team with the second-worst record in the Western Conference playing without Tyson Chandler and Eric Bledsoe certainly made that margin for error even smaller.
Booker finished with 36 points, including a 19-foot turnaround jumper over the outstretched arms of Wesley Matthews at the final buzzer. The Mavericks had led 96-92 with under two minutes to go, but could not hold on as Booker scored the Suns' final eight points.
