Booka Brass ready to rock the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival

The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival gets into full swing this October Bank Holiday weekend, with a roster of internationally renowned acts taking over Cork city and filling the streets with sweet, sweet jazz…

One of the acts we’re excited to catch on their return to the festival is Ireland’s first New Orleans-style ensemble, Booka Brass Band.

Since forming in 2012, Booka Brass Band have gone on to become one of Ireland’s most sought-after live acts. An eight-piece jazz monster, whose classically-trained members hail from all corners of the country, they’ve played intimate gigs at the likes of Dublin’s Sugar Club and Whelan’s, ground shaking festival shows at Electric Picnic and Glastonbury – and proven themselves totally at home regardless of stage size.

Drawing inspiration from the classic jazz of New Orleans, this horn-heavy octet bring their own unique perspective, moulding Dixieland into something exciting, fresh and totally danceable.

Booka Brass Band will be taking the stage at Cork Opera House on Sunday, October 26, as part of the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival – and their midnight show looks like it could be a real festival highlight among an already stellar lineup.

Support of the night comes from Toucan, an soulful ten-piece funk-pop outfit, who've been wowing audiences across the UK and Ireland, while racking up some serious airplay.

Tickets are selling fast to this not-to-be missed show, so if you’re in the mood for some high-energy brass action into the wee small hours, visit the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival website for more info and to buy tickets.
