Book returned after 63 years to Newcastle library!

A library book has finally been returned to Newcastle library, roughly 63 years late! The book which should have been returned at Fenham Library way back on November 25, 1958 was sent to Newcastle's central library this year, reports BBC.

The book returned was the first edition copy of 'How to Lie with Statistics' by Darrell Huff. While it isn't known who returned the book, it was sent along with a note that read "Better late than never!!".

David Hepworth, library manager, said, according to BBC, that the returnee "may have been worried about us sending them a bill" as a fine for late returns and maybe that's why the person didn't reveal their identity. However, fines have been suspended due to the pandemic so that people can avoid unnecessary trips to the libraries.

"As much as we're pleased to have this book back, we're also pleased that it's sparked a bit of interest and people are talking about libraries and reading," Hepworth said, reports BBC. He further said that they would like to hear from the person who returned the book so that their in-house publishing company called Tyne Bridge could offer them some books for appreciating their thoughtful work.

Isn't that a wonderful gesture?
