Ten days of mourning have now been declared across the UK in her memory.

A book of condolences will now be opened at Belfast City Hall so that people will be able to pay their respects and express their sympathies to the Royal Family.

Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Christina Black said: “It is with deep regret that I have learned of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

“My first thoughts are with her children and family circle who will feel this loss deeply.

“I also want to acknowledge the sorrow that will be felt by many people in Belfast and I wish to especially acknowledge the profound sorrow of our neighbours from within the unionist community here who will feel her loss deeply.

“Queen Elizabeth made a valuable contribution to building peace and strengthening reconciliation between people on these islands.

“As a mark of respect, I will open books of condolence at City Hall for the people of the city to sign and extend sympathies to her family at this sad time.”
