Many of Dublin Live's readers had kind words to say about his time as the boss of Superquinn.

Gerard Bolton said: "I worked in superquinn in swords for 20 years and he was a fantastic boss to work for. He was so good to all customers and his staff. Also he was a gentleman."

Susan Lambert added: "Great man with customers and staff alike . Great memories of him in Finglas store in 80s. Don’t make them like him anymore. Gentleman to the core. RIP Feargal."

While Gary Ó'Nualláin said: "Once in the Lucan Superquinn, they were giving out free doughnuts in store. Me and my little sister got one. They were pink frosted ring doughnuts. My older sister is disabled and very fussy with what she eats.

Superquinn founder and former Senator Feargal Quinn dies aged 82

"He came over to us and said are you enjoying them? And we said yes, and he asked my older sister if she got one. She said no, and he said why? She told him that she didn't like doughnuts.

"So he asked her what she did like, and after thinking about it she said chocolate muffins. So he told us to wait there, and he legged it off to the bakery counter himself and came back with a chocolate muffin for her no charge. A great man."
