Book drive for foreign inmates

A good book provides not just entertainment, but also magical transportation. Reading can be a calm escape from desperation and a guiding light through the darkness.

Thus, donating books is more than just passing on reading materials — you are at the same time contributing peace and hope.

There are many places to give away your old books. But hardly anyone would think about prison libraries.

From now until the end of June, the International Affairs Division of the Ministry of Justice is for the first time accepting book donations in all foreign languages to cater to foreigners incarcerated throughout the country.

The campaign aims to help give the prisoners an escape within the tough environment while fostering empathy and encouraging self-empowerment.

The book can be of any genre and in any foreign language. Books with images of violence, drugs or pornography are not accepted.

Donations can be done in person daily, 7am-6pm, at the Ministry of Justice Building on Chaeng Watthana Road. The drop-off point is located at the security station in front of the building.

For those who would like to donate by mail, send the books to the International Affairs Division, Ministry of Justice, Chaeng Wattahana Road, Lak Si District.
