Book celebrating bicentenary of Gatehouse of Fleet receiving barony burgh charter to be reprinted

A book published to celebrate the bicentenary of Gatehouse receiving its charter as a burgh of barony has been reprinted.

‘Gatehouse Memories’ was issued in 1995 as one of many events in the landmark year for the town.

Gatehouse Community Council hopes that the second edition, marking the 25th anniversary of the original, will be equally successful.

Provost Helen Keating said: “We have printed 500 copies and if we sell them all we should make about £300 for Gatehouse Community Council funds. It’s 25 years since the bicentenary, which was an incredible year with all sorts of stuff going on.

“We just thought it would be worthwhile doing the book again.”

‘Gatehouse Memories’ was collected by the late George McCulloch from local residents.

It was illustrated by Alex Wolffe, who still lives locally, and Jeremy Carlisle who is now in London.

Mrs Keating said: “Profits will go to the community council common good fund so will benefit the town.”

A second book ‘Gatehouse in the Past’, featuring a collection of old photographs was also published for the bicentenary.
