Boohoo names new independent non-executive director

Online fashion retailer Boohoo has beefed up its board by appointing a new independent non-executive director who will chair the audit committee.

The company, which earlier this year launched an independent review into its Leicester supply chain following reports of alleged low pay and unsafe conditions, said 52-year-old Shaun McCabe will join the board with immediate effect.

After the review findings, which identified a number of areas where the group could demonstrate improved levels of corporate governance, boohoo said it would appoint two new non-executive directors to strengthen the board.

McCabe is the first of those two appointments and will also sit on boohoo’s remuneration and nomination committees.

He is currently finance chief of Trainline and a non-executive director at online retailer AO World where he is a member of its audit and remuneration committees.

Prior to joining Trainline, McCabe worked at Asos and Amazon Europe.

Mahmud Kamani, group executive chairman of boohoo, said: "I am committed to supporting and driving our agenda for change to build a better boohoo for the benefit of all of the group’s stakeholders. On behalf of the board I am delighted to welcome Shaun to the group. His deep knowledge and experience of e-commerce and retail will be a great asset to the board.”

Kamani added: “As a group we are committed to implementing our agenda for change that will help us on our journey to lead the fashion e-commerce market globally, and look forward to providing further regular updates on our progress in due course.”

McCabe said: “I look forward to helping the group add further independent experience and increased oversight on matters of compliance and business practices.”
