Boohoo hands shares worth almost £6m to employees

Boohoo has handed shares worth almost £6m to a number of its employees.

The fashion giant has awarded over 17.1 million shares to 46 of its staff, according to an update issued to the London Stock Exchange.

The Manchester-headquartered group said the move was part of its Discretionary Share Award Plan.

Boohoo's shares were trading at 33.78p on Thursday morning (July 6), giving the total of 17,112,212 shares awarded a value of just over £5.7m.

The total number of shares handed out equate to 1.35% of the current issued share capital in Boohoo.

Boohoo confirmed that no executive directors received any of the shares.

The awards have a vesting period of three years ending on June 28, 2026, subject to continued employment on the vesting date.

The awards come in the middle of Boohoo's bitter public row with Revolution Beauty.

As part of the spat, last month Boohoo demanded that Revolution Beauty explains why it handed shares worth around £2m to a group of senior executives.

The fashion giant, which holds a 26.6% stake in the company, has reacted strongly to the news that the shares were awarded to chief executive Bob Holt, chief financial officer Elizabeth Lake and 16 other members of the management team for free.

Boohoo has called for the business to publish the terms of the move together with any award letters issued to the relevant individuals on its website without delay.

It has also demanded that Revolution Beauty confirms publicly that the proposed terms of grant of the free share awards were not amended following the announcement by Boohoo on June 19 of its intention to vote against the appointments of the CEO and CFO at the company's annual general meeting.
