Boogie boarder body-slammed by wicked wave

Randy McCabe was filming boogie boarders at a well-known Hawaiian surf spot when a kid with a lot of speed on a big wave came racing into view. He suddenly realized it was his kid.

Randal, McCabe’s youngest of three sons, proceeded to hit a small double-up, when two waves combine to create an extra powerful wave. It was akin to unexpectedly hitting a large speed bump, and it sent the 14-year-old flying upside down, and he was body-slammed as the wave crashed on the beach.

The incident occurred July 14 at Nanakuli Beach Park in Oahu, but McCabe’s video was only made public Tuesday on ViralHog.

McCabe told USA Today/For The Win Outdoors that he wasn’t concerned at all when he realized it was his son taking a beating, adding that Randal came away uninjured and went right back out.

“I have three boys and he is the youngest boy, but I tell you this kid is nuts,” McCabe told For The Win Outdoors. “He did so many crazy things in his life. Randal can handle.”

Those witnessing the nasty wipeout let out an audible groan. Randal’s reaction was quite different.

“So he came up and I showed him the video,” McCabe told For The Win Outdoors. “He was cracking up laughing.”
