Bonus payment for NHS Lanarkshire workers

Monklands’ MSPs have welcomed the commitment to pay a £500 bonus to all health service staff in recognition of their work during the coronavirus pandemic.

It will be paid to all 11,108 NHS Lanarkshire workers – with part-time staff receiving a proportionate amount – following an announcement by the First Minister during the SNP’s virtual conference.

Coatbridge representative Fulton MacGregor and Airdrie counterpart Alex Neil praised healthcare workers’ “hard work and sacrifice”, and challenged the Westminster government to ensure the bonus is not taxed.

The politicians said: “NHS staff in Lanarkshire have worked so hard to keep everyone safe during the pandemic and put their lives on the line to treat some of the sickest patients with the disease, and we’re delighted to see all their work and sacrifice being rewarded with this payment.”
