Bono's song for veteran broadcaster Charlie Bird available to listen online ahead of Croagh Patrick climb

Bono's song for veteran broadcaster Charlie Bird is now available to listen online.

"Crazy Mountain" is a special edit of U2's "I'll Go Crazy if I Don't Go Crazy Tonight" that received its first global preview on the Ryan Tubridy Show.

The infamous front man penned the song to support Charlie's campaign to climb Croagh Patrick on 2 April.

It is now available for all to hear on all of the the Climb With Charlie social media channels.

RTE listeners heard Charlie's new cloned voice introduce the track for the first time.

People around the country were blown away by the journalist's honesty on the Late Late Show where he admitted that he cries every day due to his battle with Motor Neurone disease.

He later said that the support he has received from the Irish public has been "amazing" and that he has received "letters out the door."

Speaking to Ryan Tubridy, Charlie said: "The last time I was crying a lot, I'm not crying anymore.

"The response of the public around the country has lifted me like nothing else. I mean it. Amazing. Thank you to everyone."

He said: "It has been unbelievable, and in a way, Ryan, it lifted me, even spiritually, if you understand. I'm not a deeply religious person, but now I'm lifting my head and looking at Croagh Patrick and the history of it. It's amazing."

"There is somebody sitting at home tonight who maybe tonight or tomorrow will get diagnosed with motor neuron. I want to help those people. I want to help anyone who has a terminal illness. I want to help anyone who is sick. We want to shine a candle for everyone now, and that is what this time is about."

Charlie has been overwhelmed with support for the new song.

He said; "This is an outstanding gesture. I am overjoyed and could not believe the message that I received from Bono. He has been hugely supportive of the Climb With Charlie campaign, which aims to raise funds for two amazing charities, the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta.’’

"I want to encourage everyone to log on to www.climbwithcharlie.ie and donate what they can or set up their own fundraisers to climb in their local area, be it climbing a set of stairs or a short walk around the house, around a local park, a walk to the beach. whatever you are able to do. Climb With Charlie is a nationwide initiative to recognize the huge physical and emotional mountains so many of us have to climb in our daily lives.’’

Charlie is encouraging people to climb or walk in their local area due to Covid-19 restrictions.
