Bonnyton Thistle are underdog lying in wait reckons Kilmarnock cup hero

Paul Wright reckons Bonnyton Thistle are an underdog story lying in wait.

The ‘Ton assistant manager knows that his side are likely to be facing a relegation scrap with up to eight teams going down from 20 in the West of Scotland League Premier Division.

But he reckons it will suit them being written off from the start by outsiders.

The Kilmarnock Scottish Cup final legend said: “We know we are going into a tough league, it’s going to be more challenging than the South of Scotland League because of the teams we will be facing.

“But the boys are up for it, hopefully we can be the underdog story in the league.

“We need to rise to the occasion, but the way myself and Alan [Robertson, manager] see it is that we have some players who should probably be playing with the likes of Auchinleck or Kilwinning.

“We need to be competitive first and foremost.

“If we can stay up in the first season then that would be a major achievement.”

He added: “We know what we are going into, we are not daft. Everyone is writing us off, and that’s a great thing to be honest.

“There’s a few people saying disrespectful things about Bonnyton Football Club, so there’s people at the club who can’t wait for the season to start.

“The boys will be fired up, we will give a few teams a bit of a fright, we will not be walkovers.”
