Bonnie Tyler 'surprised' by Mariah Carey's confession on first-class flight

It may have been just an ordinary flight from New York but for Bonnie Tyler she was "shocked" to discover she had a very famous fan.

The 69-year-old singer is well known for her hit Holding Out for a Hero but it turns out she could actually be Mariah Carey 's hero.

The Always Be My Baby singer, 50, gushed to the Welsh songstress that she was her "idol" as the pair sipped champagne together when they met on the flight.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Bonnie said the pair hit it off straight away.

"We had champagne together. She was lovely," she said.

"I've always been told she is a bit of a diva, but she was really nice and said: 'Oh Bonnie – you were one of my idols.'

“I told her: 'I can’t believe it'. She sat next to me for over an hour talking."

The husky-voiced singer went on to reveal that the American, who had an entourage of people, asked her where her "crew" was and couldn't understand why she was only with her husband and manager.

Bonnie added: "I said: 'I'm not like that. I do everything myself like my hair and my make-up.'"

The singer also revealed that she doesn't plan on retiring her vocal chords any time soon and admits she likes what she does.

She also says she looks at how well Sir Tom Jones is still doing at the age of 80 for inspiration.

She continued: "These days you don’t make records to make money because everybody is streaming, but I’m passionate about making new records because it keeps my live shows fresh and exciting.

"...Music is what keeps me young and I can’t wait to get out on the road again."

While she continues to turn down West End shows because she's "not an actress", the Total Eclipse of the Heart singer "wouldn't mind a cameo" role on Gavin & Stacey.

She believes that her strong Welsh accent would make a part in the sitcom the perfect role for her.
