Mumford and Sons, Kendrick Lamar, Billy Joel and deadmau5 have been announced as headliners for the 2015 Bonnaroo festival in June.

The British band will be back performing on the festival’s 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee after bassist Ted Dwane’s emergency brain surgery forced them to pull out of headlining in 2013.

Farm favourites My Morning Jacket, who made Bonnaroo history in 2008 with a 35-song set late into the night, lead the supporting acts, including Slayer, Ben Folds, Alabama Shakes and Childish Gambino.

Among a wealth of British acts on the bill are Robert Plant, Belle and Sebastian, Florence and the Machine and Jamie XX, while Courtney Barnett and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will be making the trip from Australia.

Festival organisers chose the unusual – some might say gimmicky – move of getting their fans to announce the lineup themselves. Instructed to call a free-phone number, each caller was given the name of one act appearing on the bill to share on social media using the hashtag #bonnaroo.

Earth, Wind and Fire and Tears for Fears will bring a touch of the old-school to proceedings while Bonnaroo will also host the latest incarnation of David Byrne’s travelling Atomic Bomb! band, performing the music of William Onyeabor.

A feed on the festival’s website is collating the full programme, with tickets going on sale on 17 January. A limited number of presale passes were released in November and are appearing on resale sites at prices 41% more expensive than last year’s average of $367.21, Forbes reported.

This year’s festival takes place from 11 to 14 June.
