Bonhill volunteer collects more than 50 bags of rubbish from Loch Lomond

More than 50 bags of rubbish dumped at the side of Loch Lomond have been collected by a hardworking Bonhill volunteer.

After the easing of lockdown, Rob Goodall made it his aim to tidy up the area around Duck Bay – and he labelled the amount of litter and fly-tipping in the area “a disgrace”.

Household meet-up ban seems to be working in West Dunbartonshire

Rob told the Lennox Herald: “I must have cleared over 50 bags since the lockdown eased.

“The A82 is a disgrace. What concerned me was the amount deposited to ground by so called normal folk.

“I am trying to keep the Arden to Loch Lomond area clear just now and I’m struggling.”

Local beauty spots have been blighted by littering this year, with National Park staff saying they are fighting “a tidal wave of litter” after collecting 81 bags in just two days from the area in August.

National Park authority chief Gordon Watson labelled littering “devastating” for the natural environment,

And as Rob’s photos show, the issue isn’t going away – with everything from general waste to carpets, camping equipment and even brake discs dumped.

He added: “People’s attitudes need to be changed and if they don’t then enforcement needs to be ramped up. This is something that is destroying our beautiful countryside.”
