Bongos Bingo after lads to be dancers at their Newcastle shows with auditions this weekend

Bongo's Bingos are gearing up to host auditions for lads who fancy being dancers at their Newcastle shows.

Now, when you think of bingo you tend to conjure up images of blue rinses and blindingly tacky carpets, but after you pay a visit to Bongo’s Bingo those notions quickly become a distant memory.

And that’s because Bongo’s Bingo, which was started by two mates in Liverpool, isn’t like a night at the Mecca, more of a mecca for all things off the wall, brilliantly bonkers and wickedly wild.

The crazy mash up of bingo books, cheesy music, raves and mad prizes, took the world by storm before coronavirus hit; pulling in big crowds in the likes of Amsterdam, Ibiza, Paris and even Dubai.

It didn't take long for Geordies to take Bongo's to their hearts, with it now being a huge success in Newcastle for over four years.

And, after Covid restrictions ended in mid-July, normal service has been resumed at its Tyneside home of the Boiler Shop.

If you've been before you'll know the MC and DJ Mickey Pickles is always joined by a pair of glamorous girls on stage.

Except they aren't girls, but lads dressed in fancy dress costumes that have ranged from Tinkerbell to Snow White and everything in between.

As well as checking for false calls, delivering prizes like boxes of Coco Pops to bingo winners, the dancers take a starring role in every show and now Bongo's are keen to recruit some more in Newcastle.

Posting on Facebook to appeal to potential candidates, Bongo's wrote: "Have you ever fancied yourself as a Bongo’s Bingo dancer?

"Think you’d look good in a wig, dress and stockings? "Then you might be the guy we’re looking for!!

"We’re holding an open audition night for Bongo’s Bingo dancers, but we do things a little differently here at Bongo’s… we’re NOT looking for professional dancers."

The dancer auditions will take place at Boiler Shop this Saturday, August28 from 3-5pm.

The auditions will consist of a quick Q&A and around two minutes of on stage dancing to two songs ( one rave, one random) picked by a panel of Bongo’s Bingo judges.

Bongo's added: "We’re looking for the lads who think they’re the King of the dance floor after a few shandies on a night out."
