It’s normally confined to the much more sheltered four walls of Boiler Shop but Bongo’s Bingo exposed itself to the elements on Friday night when it held its first ever fully outdoor event in Newcastle.
The closest it had come to an al fresco bingo session prior to Friday night was the huge St Patrick’s Day special under a marquee in Times Square but as it launched Northern Pride 2019 , the crazy mashup of bingo, rave and outrageous prizes left itself open to the bidding of Mother Nature on the Town Moor .
Thankfully, while there were a few showers, the weather forecast wasn’t nearly quite as bad as it could have been as Bongo’s Bingo founder Jonny Bongo presided over the crowd that gathered on the Town Moor for the special event.
Songs like I Want It That Way, I Wanna Be The Only One, C’est La Vie and school assembly anthems Give Me Oil In My Lamp and He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands filled the air as prizes like a cardboard cutout of Phillip Schofield, a Henry Hoover, spacehopper, Coco Pops and a full set of Disney dolls were won by some very enthusiastic developers, before special guests Big Brovaz and Booty Luv entertained with songs like Nu Flow, Some Kinda Rush and Favourite Things.
Newcastle Pride takes things up a few notches on Saturday with a huge city centre parade before acts like Fleur East and Saara Aalto entertain at the Moor.
And then on Sunday there’ll be a homecoming for Geordie girl Michelle Heaton when Liberty X top the bill at the huge annual event.
