Bongo's Bingo is going XL for 1980s bank holiday in Manchester

It's one of Manchester's most random nights out, and cult rave bingo phenomenon Bongo's Bingo has confirmed it will be going extra large again on the early May bank holiday weekend in Manchester.

The event, a hybrid mix of old school rave and actual bingo where you can win prizes, has made its Manchester home at the Albert Hall on Peter Street in recent years and has become known as one of the city's " maddest nights out ".

But after the success of previous "XL" events at Manchester Central, organisers are taking it back to the former railway station for two huge 1980s-themed weekend shows.

They've promised "surprise star guests" at the XL events, where the bingo games will be played with a capacity crowd of 3,500 inside the Windmill Street venue.

The Bank Holiday double dates will be on Saturday April 30 (which has already sold out) and Sunday May 1, where you can expect a playlist of 80s classics, "massive prizes" and "two of the biggest parties Bongo's Bingo have ever created in the city", according to organisers.

80s fancy dress will, naturally, be encouraged although we're told is not compulsory.

The rave bingo event has returned this month for a run of events at Albert Hall, which includes a sold out St Patrick's Day extravaganza with actual Atomic Kitten booked to perform on the night.

They've also announced a string of day-time bingo raves for April, but they've also already sold out such is demand for the cult night out.

Tickets for the Bongo's Bingo XL events are on sale now, although the Saturday April 30 date has already sold out, at bongosbingo.co.uk
