Bongani Zungu transfer latest as Rangers put on red alert for midfield target

Rangers could go back in for Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu after Amiens lowered their asking price.

Steven Gerrard's need for a new midfielder has been heightened after injuries to Joe Aribo and Ryan Jack, leaving Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Scott Arfield as the only recognised senior players in that position.

And they have been linked with a move for relegated French club Amiens' South African international Zungu for most of the summer.

Zungu has refused to play for Amiens this season as he's desperate to get a move elsewhere, with clubs in Italy interested too.

Rangers have so far been put up moving for the 27-year-old because Amiens have refused to budge from their £4 million asking price.

However, the club's president, Bernard Joannin, has now conceded they will have to sell their star man.

He said: "Before recruiting anyone else, we have to sell and that means the players who don't want to be here.

"There is no longer any question of keeping players who have their heads elsewhere."

And that's set to alert Rangers to negotiate again with the Ligue 2 side.
