Bongani Zungu set for Rangers loan move as Ibrox side look to solve Steven Gerrard's midfield problem

Rangers are poised to sign South African midfielder Bongani Zungu on loan from Amiens.

The deal will also include an option to buy the 27-year-old with Steven Gerrard finally getting the final piece of his midfield puzzle.

The Rangers boss has been chasing a midfielder all summer and Zungu was his top target, but the move appeared to have fallen by the wayside.

But now it's back on and he should have his move to Glasgow confirmed before tonight's midnight deadline. He'll become the seventh signing of the window for Gerrard.

Ianis Hagi, Leon Balogun, Calvin Bassey, Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten and Jon McLaughlin have all joined this summer and now Zungu will provide more competition in midfield.

Gerrard has regularly spoken about his wish to get a player into the engine room and Rangers were down to their bare bones in the engine room in recent weeks after injuries to Joe Aribo and Ryan Jack.

Zungu has spent the last three years playing in France after joining Amiens from Portuguese outfit Vitoria Guimaraes.

He previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns in his homeland and has picked up 29 caps for his country since making his debut in 2013.
