Rangers are set to be without Bongani Zungu for the Scottish Cup clash with Cove Rangers after agreeing to let him to fly out to Sudan for South Africa's Nations Cup qualifier.
FIFA have agreed that clubs do not have to release their players if they're required to quarantine on their return.
Sudan is not currently on the UK government's coronavirus red list, while the requirement for all arrivals to Scotland to quarantine contains an elite sport exemption.
However, TimesLIVE reports there was no way for Zungu to get to Kharthoum for the AFCON qualifier without going through a red zone country.
And it seems Steven Gerrard will have to do without the loanee in the Scottish Cup as South Africa confirm he'll join up for the fixture but will quarantine on his return.
Doctor Thugali Ngwenya said: "Zungu is confirmed. He’ll be joining us in Sudan. With (Keagan) Dolly we’re still hoping and there are still negotiations happening.
"But then Thulani (Serero) and Dean (Furman) it’s confirmed – they are not coming.
"We agreed (with Rangers)‚ and Zungu said he’s willing to quarantine."
The quarantine would mean Zungu missing the Cove Rangers game but he could be ready to face Hibs on April 11.
