Bongani Zungu's 'heart set' on £3.5m Rangers transfer as Liverpool factor sees him snub La Liga move

Bongani Zungu's 'heart is set' on moving to Rangers as the Amiens midfielder will snub Celta Vigo in favour of an Ibrox switch.

The Daily Record claim the Light Blues have agreed a £3.5m fee for the South African and will become the club's fifth signing of the summer.

La Liga side Celta Vigo and Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg both had a bid accepeted for Zungu, but he reportedly blanked every other suitor after hearing about Steven Gerrard's interest in him.

The 27-year-old is a die-hard Liverpool fan and the allure of linking up with the Anfield legend seems to be too big to turn down.

Zungu admitted he is looking for a fresh challenge after he narrowly missed out on a move to Real Mallorca in January.

He said: "You know the feeling when you are expecting something and it doesn’t happen...I was disappointed.

“I negotiated personal terms with the club. I was happy. Everybody was happy and the next thing I was on a flight back to Spain. We were just waiting for a go-ahead from Amiens. Then it all changed.

“I almost left in January, and the club understands and they know that I’m looking to spread my wings, to get a new challenge, and to be honest I’m ready for that.”
