Bongani Zungu in life after Rangers nightmare as former Ibrox loanee 'frozen out' at French strugglers

Rangers flop Bongani Zungu has been frozen out at Amiens after his manager questioned his fitness levels following his Ibrox loan.

South Africa international Zungu joined from French side Amiens at the start of the Premiership winning campaign but failed to hold down a first-team place.

Zungu was mainly limited to cameos off the bench during his time at Rangers, making just four starts in Govan.

The champions had an option to buy but Steven Gerrard decided against signing the player who was caught up in a Covid controversy and was hit with a seven-game SFA ban.

Following his return to France, things have gone from bad to worse for Zungu.

During the summer the midfielder was heavily linked with a return to his homeland and a switch to Kaizer Chiefs.

Amiens boss Philippe Hinschberger has confirmed that he missed most of pre-season while in South Africa.

However, with a move failing to materialise he has yet to make a first-team appearance in Ligue 2.

That is despite the club facing a relegation dogfight with just one win from their opening 10 fixtures.

Hinschberger told the French press that Zungu is out of his plans due to lack of fitness, with his contract set to run out at the end of 2022.

He said: “Bongani Zungu works separately with the physical trainers.

"We want to get him completely back on his feet physically because he starts from a distance then we will assess the situation."
