Bongani Zungu given Rangers fitness boost as midfielder handed South Africa starting spot

Bongani Zungu has been named in the South Africa starting eleven to face Sao Tome and Principe.

The midfielder is still building up his fitness after joining Rangers on loan from Amiens on deadline day with an option to buy.

He made his debut for the Ibrox side as a half-time sub in the 8-0 win over Hamilton Accies just before the international break.

He got some much needed minutes into his legs as a substitute in Friday nights' win over Sao Tome and Principe.

Zungu scored the second goal of the game and has been rewarded with a start in the second of the African Cup of Nations qualifying double header.

Zungu is partnered in midfield by former Rangers youngster Dean Furman.

Furman joined Rangers from Chelsea in 2006 and spent three years at the club, playing just one game.

He was highly-rated when he arrived but struggled to break into a team filled with players such as Barry Ferguson, Pedro Mendes and Steven Davis.

He soon left Rangers and joined Oldham in a search for first team football after a spell on loan at Bradford.

The 32-year-old recently joined Carlisle in England's fourth tier after a spell in his homeland with SuperSport.
