Bongani Zungu follows up Rangers debut with South Africa strike as Ibrox midfielder turns around 'lacklustre' side

Rangers midfielder Bongani Zungu followed up his impressive Premiership debut by getting on the scoresheet for South Africa on Friday night.

Bafana Bafana saw off Sao Tome and Principe 2-0 in an African Cup of Nations qualifier at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Zungu's former Mamelodi Sundowns team-mate Percy Tau broke the deadlock before the Light Blues midfielder came off the bench.

And he changed the game according to Goal South Africa, who described the team's performance as "lacklustre" but insisting Zungu's introduction helped Molefi Ntseki's men to victory.

The October arrival put the game to bed with a 90th minute header from Keagan Dolly's corner kick.

It marked Zungu's fourth goal for his country after past strikes against Nigeria, Namibia and Swaziland, and puts South Africa in a good position to qualify with six points from three games.

Meanwhile, Rangers frontman Alfredo Morelos came on as a second-half substitute in Colombia's vital World Cup qualifier at home to Uruguay.

Deadly Atalanta duo Luis Muriel and Duvan Zapata were preferred to the Ibrox striker but Morelos replaced the former on the hour mark.

Uruguay won 3-0 thanks to strikes from Manchester United's Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez and Darwin Nunez. Everton defender Yerry Mina was sent off late on for Colombia.
