Bonfire Night celebrations in Durham will see new event make its debut with spectacular fireworks and laser show

A spectacular fireworks and laser show is set to make its debut this November with a Bonfire Night event billed as the biggest of its kind in the region.

Organisers of the new event say they are out to "raise the bar" with a 25-minute show on November 2 in the grounds of Lambton Park in Chester-le-Street, County Durham .

And they are planning fireworks from more than 30 launch positions spread across 150 metres along the banks of the River Wear, alongside live music, high-power lasers and special effects.

Jarrow-based company Spectrum Fireworks and Special Effects Limited, which has provided displays for the likes of BBC’s Big Weekend festival and special effects for Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger, has teamed up with Sparx Events for the showcase premiere.

Artistic director Pete Bell said: "Our aim is to wow audiences with something entirely new and different that they’ve never seen before.

"Having provided special effects such as lasers and flame throwers to our clients, we now have the opportunity to incorporate these devices into a larger multi-media show."

He added: "We’re also incredibly excited to be hosting this event at the rarely-seen Lambton Park."

The County Durham estate which  includes Lambton Castle, formerly used in the filming of BBC drama The Paradise ,  is the ancestral seat of the Earls of Durham is currently undergoing restoration works.

Pete added: "The stunning landscape, which remains somewhat a hidden gem, provides the perfect setting for us to create a firework event truly unlike anything else in the North of England."

On the night there also will be a food village which will be open from 4.30pm until 9pm with food and drink outlets including a licensed bar. There will be a fun fair too.

Standard tickets, bought in advance, for the Bonfire Night celebration cost £10 for those aged 12-plus and £5 for five to 11-year-olds while under-fives, although still requiring a ticket, will have free entry.

Premium tickets are also available online for £16 and £12 respectively while tickets bought on the gate on the night, if still available, will cost £15 and £10. And on-site car parking will be £2 per car. See here for tickets.
