Bonfire Night birthday ends in tears as woman sprays family with fire extinguisher

A Bonfire Night birthday ended in tears after woman sprayed a family with fire extinguisher

They claim they were targeted on Bonfire Night after they set off number of small fountain-type fireworks.

Once the fireworks had been lit, a woman appeared over the garden fence and is said to have sprayed a CO2 extinguisher.

But one of their family members was forced go to hospital, the mum told the Manchester Evening News.

She said: "We decided to cut a cake for him, with just immediate family, 12 people in total.

"Everyone came over after school, and at 6.30ish, we went outside to do fireworks.

"We got fireworks that are fountains, it just sprays colours and [makes] a bit of a crackle, but they do not go in the sky and explode.

"The fireworks were at the bottom of the garden. My dad was lighting them.

"Within a couple of minutes we heard a whoosh and there was a thick smoke.

"Everyone was screaming, coughing, and spluttering. We ran inside.

"We saw her spraying us down with a fire extinguisher."

The woman added: "My brother-in-law had to go to hospital as he has a heart condition. He was in there for two days.

"Both my children [were] off school and nursery with breathing issues, my son is currently hooked up to a nebuliser to clear his lungs.

The woman, who has not been identified, added: "My brother-in-law had to go to hospital as he has a heart condition. He was in there for two days.

"Both my children [were] off school and nursery with breathing issues, my son is currently hooked up to a nebuliser to clear his lungs.

"I’m born and bred here. My parents are the same. My family came here in 1942. We are British. To be told that and assaulted... it was mortifying."

Greater Manchester Police said a woman had been arrested.

A spokesperson said: "A woman has been bailed after being arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence."
