Bonfire Night 2020: Clever way to help stop kids burning their fingers on sparklers

It's Bonfire Night and you may be having your own fireworks in your back garden.

Organised displays across Merseyside including the city's own River of Light display have been cancelled.

But that doesn't mean you can't have your own celebrations at home.

Some of you might be having your own party with hot dogs and toffee apples and what better to finish your Bonfire Night off with some sparklers.

But it's so important to be careful with sparklers as they can reach up to 2000°C.

However, pyrotechnic company Galactic Fireworks have come up with a clever hack to protect your children's hands and all you need is - a pepper.

You can use the pepper as a shield, simply cut the top of the bell pepper off and place the pepper below the end of the sparkler, so it stops burning before the pepper shield.

The clever hack could stop burning your hands while using sparklers (Galactic Fireworks)

More sparkler safety tips

Here are some more ways to stay safe while using sparklers.

  • When you hold a sparkler, always wear gloves and hold them at arm's length.

  • An adult should light sparklers one at a time.

  • Once your sparkler is finished, put it in water or a dirt-filled bucket.

  • Wear closed-toe shoes when handling lit sparklers.

  • Don't give a sparkler to a child aged under five.

  • Never throw a sparkler.
