Bonfire night 1876 - picture of the day

This image of a guy being pulled on a donkey cart was taken by Scottish photographer John Thompson and published in Street Life in London, a groundbreaking monthly magazine which he published with his collaborator, the radical journalist Adolphe Smith. The publication, which lasted a year, was a pioneering project to document the everyday lives of working class Londoners
