Bonfire damages Maryhill Park community gardens

Maryhill residents have been left devastated after a fire has destroyed an area of Maryhill Park.

A bonfire has ruined the flowerbeds in the community garden. The wooden fences have been scorched with the ground looking burnt underneath.

Volunteers have been fixing the mess this morning.

Park staff took to social media to post a picture, writing: "We’ve been tidying up in the park today - sadly a bonfire has caused some damage to the community garden."

Residents responded with their dismay. Labour and Cooperative candidate for Maryhill and Springburn Keiran O'Neill wrote: "This is just horrible. So sorry this has happened."

Ed Crick wrote: "You lot are the best. With a lack of funding vs other parks and an active minority of very irresponsible park users making life difficult with litter you do the best."

Police have been approached for comment.
