Bones found near Brisbane River identified as missing woman

Forensic officers searching an apartment near the Kangaroo Point cliffs.

Police have confirmed the human remains discovered at Kangaroo Point cliffs near the Brisbane River belong to missing woman Constance Watcho.

Bones were found in a bag near the popular picnic and jogging spot on Monday morning by a member of the public.

Ms Watcho, 37, was last seen at a Greenslopes bank on November 27, 2017.

Detective Senior Sergeant Warren Gibbs said police used medical and dental records to identify the remains.

"There's an ongoing investigation surrounding that as to the circumstances of that person's death," he said.

He said it was unclear when the remains were dumped at the foot of the cliffs.

A crime scene has been set up at a nearby Kangaroo Point apartment building where Ms Watcho lived.

Detective Senior Sergeant Gibbs said police would spend days combing through the unit complex.

"It's going to take some time to go through that, so I'd expect that we'd have forensic police here for at least a number of days," he said.

"Obviously they're going to be painstakingly going through every item that's within the unit.

"We know that was the last location that [Ms Watcho] was residing at so it's important to make sure that we find any evidence at all, even though the time has passed — which is quite substantial — we don't know what might be there."

A woman who lives next door, Deborah Boutland, said she had seen Ms Watcho at the apartment block prior to her disappearance.

"I do know that her brother had visited trying to find her whereabouts. He was very concerned," Ms Boutland told ABC News.

She said the unit being searched by police was often noisy.

Ms Boutland said she had spoken to the man who found the human remains.

"He actually found the bones on Saturday but was too nervous to report them until Monday, this is what he told me," she said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Gibbs said police had been trying to contact Ms Watcho's relatives.

"She has family throughout Queensland and we've gone to some degree of effort to make sure we've contacted those people," he said.

"As you could understand they would be distraught."

Detectives have appealed for anyone with drone vision of the area taken at any time in the past year to come forward.
