Bond star Eva Green says high heels are 'anti-feminist' and make women look like 'birds on stilts'

Eva Green has said she thinks high heels are "anti-feminist".

The Bond actor, who appeared in Casino Royale, opened up about her relationship with fashion and beauty in a new interview with Town & Country magazine.

The 39-year-old, who is the daughter of French actor Marlene Jober, said that her mother often tells her she should make more of an “effort” with her appearance but that she prefers to choose comfort over style.

“My mother would tell you, I should know how to do my hair, to make an effort,” she said.

“I ought to wear more colours, to be more of a woman, but I like comfort too much.”

Green continued: “High heels just feel really anti-feminist to me, we're like birds on stilts.”

The Dark Shadows actor also spoke about the strength of the female astronauts she met while filming her new movie Proxima, in which she plays an astronaut preparing for a one-year mission aboard the International Space Station.

“They're like superheroes, these people. They speak five or six languages, they have to be good at everything physically, they sacrifice themselves,” Green said.

“The male astronauts will automatically show you pictures of their children and partners, but the women usually don't, because it would distract them from the mission.

“They are so strong, it's difficult to see the cracks in the armour.”

This is not the first time Green has spoken publicly about her experiences with feminism and women’s rights.

In October 2017, the actor accused disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment.

Green issued a statement to Variety after her mother claimed she attempted to dodge his advances but that Weinstein threatened to destroy her career in response during a radio interview.

“I met him for a business meeting in Paris at which he behaved inappropriately and I had to push him off,” Green explained.

“I got away without it going further, but the experience left me shocked and disgusted.”

Weinstein was found guilty of rape and sexual assault earlier this year, and is currently serving a 23-year sentence in a New York City jail.
