Bond boss says 007 will NEVER be played by a woman

Barbara Broccoli has killed off any hope of a female 007, dismissing the idea as “stunt casting”.

The film producer behind the Bond franchise said last year there would “probably” never be a woman 007.

But asked again as the Bond 25 film was launched, she said: “I’m very much interested in making films about women, created for women – and not doing some sort of stunt casting by turning Bond into a woman.”

Barbara, 58, said a black actor could take over if Daniel Craig, 51, makes this his last outing as Bond.

She said: “It would be wide open. Everyone went hysterical when Daniel was cast – because he’s blond, would you believe. He is saying this is his last movie as Bond. Sadly.

“We’re not even remotely thinking about what will happen if indeed Daniel hangs up his holster.”

The 25th film, due out next April, is to be set in Jamaica, where Ian Fleming wrote the books and the location for the first Bond film, Dr No, in 1962.

New additions include Rami Malek, 37, who won an Oscar for his role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. He is tipped to be a Bond villain.

Barbara said: “He’s extraordinary. And I think the character we’ve created, he’s the perfect fit.”

  • Singer Grace Jones, 70, is set to return in the new 007 movie 25 years after playing May Day in A View To A Kill alongside the late Roger Moore.
